“Because trust isn’t told, it’s verified.”
If you’re a Texas homeowner, here’s a surprising fact:
There is no state license required to become a roofer in Texas.
No testing. No regulations. No mandatory insurance. Nothing.
That means anyone can knock on your door after a storm, claim to be a roofer, and legally accept your money—without any proven knowledge, qualifications, or accountability.
At Banner Roofing we think that’s unacceptable. That’s why we made the decision to pursue voluntary licensing through RCAT—the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas.
Because protecting your home shouldn’t be a gamble.
What is RCAT Licensing?
RCAT is the leading professional organization for roofing contractors in the state. Recognizing the lack of regulation in Texas, they established a voluntary state licensing program designed to set a higher standard of professionalism and safety.
To become an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor, a company must:
- Operate as a legitimate business in Texas for a minimum of three years
- Maintain proper liability and workers’ compensation insurance
- Pass a rigorous written exam on roofing systems, building codes, and safety practices
- Uphold a strict code of ethics and continue professional education
This isn’t a one-time badge. It’s a credential that must be earned and maintained.
Why Banner Roofing Chose to Be Licensed
We didn’t have to pursue licensing—we chose to. Roofing isn’t just a business for us. It’s a profession that protects people’s homes, families, and investments. Here’s why licensing matters to us:
- It Protects Homeowners
RCAT licensing gives you confidence that your contractor:- Knows current code requirements and industry best practices
- Has proven competency through testing and experience
- Maintains active insurance coverage to protect your property and crew
- It Builds Trust
When you hire a licensed contractor, you’re not just hiring a company—you’re trusting someone with your home. Our license proves we’re not just talking about standards—we’re living them, check out our company values here. - It Elevates the Industry
Too many homeowners in Texas have been burned by fly-by-night roofers who disappear after taking deposits or performing substandard work. By becoming licensed, we’re helping to raise the bar across the state and set a better example.
Unlicensed Doesn’t Mean Qualified
Remember: a contractor not being licensed in Texas isn’t technically illegal—but it is risky. If something goes wrong, you could be left with no warranty, no recourse, and no protection.
At Banner Roofing, we believe doing things the right way isn’t optional—it’s our identity.
Licensing Is Just One of Many Standards We Uphold
Our RCAT license is one part of a bigger picture. We’re also:
- GAF Master Elite® Certified (top 2% of roofers in North America)
- Accredited by the Better Business Bureau (A+ rating)
- Active members of NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association), RCAT, and NTRCA (North Texas Roofing Contractors Association)
It all adds up to this: We’re not the cheapest bid—we’re the most accountable choice.
